I’ve been collaborating with model Chyna Tene for several years now and I always go into the shoots excited to see what we come up with. It’s always a true collaboration, with her in charge or wardrobe, hair, and makeup, and me in charge of the rest.

This shoot started simply with me using one light, converting the images to black and white. Once she let her hair down I knew we had to go with 70’s vibes. I added a yellow gel to my light and switched to my fungus lens and got to work. Chyna channels a young Diana Ross like no other. After shooting a few portraits, I wanted to push the lighting much more ethereal and have a go at capturing her soul, still obviously influenced by Andres Serrano.
